Where We Left Off

Lagi pula, ini semua bukan salahnya, juga bukan salah Lyon atau Lea — none of them was at fault here. Because if you go all the way back to the catalyst of why she became who she is today, would it be her parents’ fault for passing away in a car accident?

She was going to dress to impress and get a hold of herself. Her makeup was going to be more minimum (“clean girl” as her sister calls it) without eyeshadow or eyeliner. She finished off with a layer of a lip tint from a Korean brand and she was ready to go.

She felt herself again somehow like her own person and that’s what’s important. In this moment, she was just Levinia and not the head of her family or her siblings’ sister.

“How did you feel when I asked you out for dinner?” asked the most eligible bachelor in Indonesia. Levinia had to remind herself about the wild odds of being able to describe him as such — the current CEO of one of Indonesia’s powerful corporations.

Levinia tersenyum, “Good. Came at a right time. Much needed change of scenery or whatnot.”

“That’s good to hear. I really wanted to talk to you again. Truly. I mean what I say and say what I mean. Quote me on that any time you want,” canda Kavindra.

“Gapapa, kan karena sibuk. How has life been since me?” tanya Levinia.

“Biasa... Morning runs, gym sessions, a lot of working, and being there for my sister. She finds it annoying but yeah… Hidupku sih gak sedinamik kamu. It’s you that I’m more curious of,” jawab Kavindra.

“Honestly? I crashed out yesterday. Being the big sister is hard, especially when you have nobody to turn to — ”

“You have me to talk to and annoy with all the stories,” potong Kavindra.

“Serius? You wouldn’t mind?” tanya Levinia dengan penasaran.

“Yeah. That’s one of the reasons people form bonds. To share, relate, and communicate.”

Kalau bukan karena suara lagu Too Much of A Good Thing dari NIKI, suara hati Levinia akan memenuhi ruangan. She was done for, surely.

Piercing through the song was Kavindra’s attempt to continue the conversation with his curiosity to ask her, “Have you ever been to the Netherlands while you were in Europe?”

Setelah menenangkan hatinya dengan cepat, Levindra jawab, “I did, actually. Aku pernah ketemu beberapa teman kelasku dulu di Amsterdam. Great, big, a bit overwhelming even. I think it’s the canal and alley. Kalau dibandingin sama Groningen, bakal beda sih. So, your sister’s either going to be uncomfortable with the lack of entertainment or… best case scenario is that she’d master navigating it by the first two weeks and travel around Europe to satisfy a newfound wanderlust.”

“Coming from personal experience, I suppose?” canda Kavindra.

“You could say that more or less,” kata Levinia sebelum lanjut, “Your sister is lucky to have a brother who worries and cares as much you.”

Dalam upaya membiarkan percakapan itu tetap mengalir, Kavindra bertanya, “How was it really, though? Your time in Europe. Aku sebenarnya pengen tahu banyak soal itu. Cuma, kayaknya bakal too much waktu first meet. Nanti kesannya bakal kayak imprompty pop quiz filosofi. Not cool.

“No, it’s fine. To be short, it was life changing. Really helped me develop as a human,” jawab Levinia.

“So, you were a martian before you went there?” canda Kavindra sebelum lanjut, “Sumpah, maaf banget. Aku lagi pengen jahilin kamu.”

“Welcome to Mars, astronaut,” balas Levinia sambil tersenyum. That smile of hers hasn’t left the table for as long as they were talking.

Miss Levinia, kamu bisa lanjutkan wisdom talk kamu. This astronaut will shut up now,” ucap Kavindra.

“Well… I was probably only half or even less of the person I am today. Aku nggak peduli kata orang lain. Aku bakal tetap pilih buat pergi ke sana. The new exciting world before me. The excitement. The adapting and adjusting. Finding myself. Crazy thing is…. probably, Iwouldn’t have found you if things were different,” jelas Levinia.

She helped lay the path for me to find you.”

“Cheers to that, Kavind — Kavi.”

“Will always pop the champagne whenever you want it, Levi.”
